To let go or to keep on fighting?

Today's episode of The Vampire Diaries makes me wonder about two things. Two things that make my mind reel. You see, the other is being in conflict with the other.

I am choosing to discuss Anna and Jeremy's situation first. (I'm not going to expound on everything, tho. This is NOT a review.) Anna, Jeremy's ex-girlfriend, was a vampire who had been staked and burned by the Founders. She came back as a ghost (because of the spell Bonnie, Jeremy's current girlfriend, made to save him from death) and Jeremy can see, touch and talk to her whenever he thinks of her. Anna's presence is a clear violation to the laws of nature. The dead shall stay dead. She should move on, but she does not want to be alone anymore. Besides, Anna couldn't for she is tied with Jeremy. He should let her go too. Today, Jeremy admitted that he couldn't stop thinking about Anna even though he already has Bonnie. He couldn't let her go because he loves her, he always has. In the end, Anna realized that she should stop holding Jeremy back for he still has a full life to live. Jeremy eventually let Anna go even if it pains both of them.

And now, on to Stefan and Elena's predicament. Stefan Salvatore is not the I'd-rather-eat-a-bunny-than-murder-innocent-people kind of vampire anymore, he had been compelled to forget about his humanity and to return to his old ways. He is back in his "Ripper" self who would stop at nothing to kill people and feast with their blood. As an order from Klaus, Stefan is now wreaking havoc in Elena's, his (ex?) girlfriend, life. Every TVD fan knows how great the love those two have for each other. Elena does not want to give up on him. She thinks that he will be able to find his humanity back because of his love for her. She thinks this is just a test and Stefan will make it through in the end. She will do anything to bring back the old times.

I know it's twisted and all because everything I stated was fiction. Especially the first one, what with Anna being dead and all. But let's assume it is happening in real life. Let's assume no one is dead. What will you do?

Will you take Anna and Jeremy's way? Will you just let go and let the other move on and find himself with another person even if you still love each other dearly? All because you think it's already a lost cause? All because you think it's the right thing to do?

Or would you be like Elena who will still fight for Stefan because you know he will eventually come around even if all his actions imply that he won't? Will you take her way because you think that your love for each other is so powerful that it will convince him to change his ways?

To let go or to keep on fighting? That is the question. It actually depends on the situation. Everything gets twisted when love is involved. I have once said that love is a battlefield. Because you have to enter a bloodbath to get what you deserve? Yes. But it's more than that. It's much more complicated than that. Here is a quote that I think is related to this post:

"And in some way, I realized that I will never be fully over you, and that part of me will always love you. But most of me understands that this doesn't work and I need to move on to be happy."

P.S. In the second situation, Elena said that Stefan should also help himself because she can't love a ghost forever. And rightfully so, because no one waits forever.
